Dr. Buckley's Top 10 Recommendations for Optimizing Brain Conditioning Effects

1. Avoid alcohol and any non-prescribed substance during training, and maintain contact with your MD about minimizing or eliminating any medication.

2. Avoid all aspartame and MSG excitotoxins found in processed food. See dorway.com and truthinlabeling.com for more info.

3. Eat organic if possible. Pesticides act as excitotoxins and harm the nervous system, and therefore every system!

4. Drink plenty of healthy water. Fiji water is one of just a few waters that are alkaline and pure. Most bottled waters including ozarka, aquafina, and dasani are acidic and therefore not ideal. At the very least AVOID drinking all tap water, and consider getting a shower filter.

5. Eat good clean protein to help facilitate the nervous systems formation of new neural networks. High quality whey protein from pure encapsulations or premier research labs is recommended.

6. Avoid all news programming, including the newspaper, but especially the local news. News is sensationalistic and creates feelings of fear and anger. Rarely does one gather information from the newsmedia and shift their world for the positive; rather a shift for the positive comes from change within!

7. Read instead of watching TV. If you think you’re merely a product of your DNA and therefore have little control over your health – think again! I highly recommend “The Biology of Belief” by Bruce Lipton Ph.D. It clearly shows in a very readable, yet scientific manner, that what we believe influences our DNA and ultimately directs the function of our bodies. Furthermore, Byron Katie’s book “Loving What Is” can provide you with a practical tool to gain mastery over your thoughts.

8. Supplement with high quality essential fatty acids such as fish oil, or flax seed oil. Not only are these good for the heart and decreasing inflammation, but they’re good for the brain as well.

9. Do some exercise you enjoy, or at the very least get out and walk! Hatha yoga is very complimentary to this work as it helps keep your mind and body working together.

10. Get your gut healthy. When people talk about being toxic, a large part of that toxicity comes from improper digestion of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. When you realize that the gastrointestinal system produces over 90% of the bodies serotonin as well as numerous other neuropeptides which influence mood you know that thinking well doesn’t happen without digesting and eliminating waste well! Plant based digestive enzymes and broad spectrum probiotics are critical for maintaining gut health when one doesn’t want to eat raw and fermented foods as regular staples to their diet.
